DISTURBED Bassist Says Band's New Live Show Is 'Beyond Anything We've Done Before'

March 4, 2011

Eric Woods of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal recently conducted an interview with DISTURBED bassist John Moyer. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On DISTURBED's updated live show:

"This is a DISTURBED that you've never seen. We're bringing out a level of production which is beyond anything we've done before. We've integrated videos in with the songs, a video look that goes with every song that paints a picture. Even if you have seats in the back, it's still an amazing show. You're not just watching four guys walk around on stage, you're watching like this entire video montage that goes with the music and it helps support all of the lyrics and all of the crushing tones that we have going on. We always feel like we bring a great show, but this time around, we feel like this is the best show we've ever had."

On the lyrics to DISTURBED's most recent studio album, "Asylum", which is meant to be darker and more mature than the band's previous CD, "Indestructible":

"'Asylum', the obvious connotation is that of an insane asylum. The lyrics on this record are about loneliness and depression, you know, uncertainty. Then of course, you know the lyrics to 'Asylum' are about loss of a loved one and within those lyrics, he [singer David Draiman] says the thought of you is killing me, but it's also saving me."

On the concerts that influenced him the most:

"There were a couple (concerts),but one of the most memorable ones was when I saw VAN HALEN when they came through on the '0U812' tour. I don't remember who the opening act was, but I was such a VAN HALEN fan at the time and I loved it. You know it was amazing. . . I remember Eddie coming over to the wings and being like where I could almost touch him, you know? We were reaching out to him and he was throwing picks at us. Yeah, it was very cool."
